No matter how drawn I am to the "accidental" abstract compositions that present themselves to me, it is hard to stay away from representational painting. At the moment I am trying to do smaller, quick thumbnail studies in the hope that it will help to bring out shapes to play with.

While painting 'Orange Sunset' I repeatedly got stuck because I became attached to the under painting. I continued on with my original end vision of the artwork but meanwhile took many pictures of the different stages of process. Now I would like to start a series in which I explore these shapes and color compositions in a more abstract way.
